Healthcare Sunday
Health is an issue that effects us all. At some stage in our lives
every one of us will look to a health professional for help and
advice. One of the main agencies bringing care in our society is
the National Health Service. As one of the largest employers in
the world it employs over one million people, of which there are
an estimated 100,000 who are Christians, with many more working
in the private and voluntary sector.
Healthcare Sunday is an opportunity for Churches to recognise the
work done by healthcare professionals and voluntary carers. It also
gives an opportunity to pray for the nation's health provision,
as Christians in the community we have a responsibility for the
health of the nation. There are more opportunities now than ever
before for the Church to take the lead in creative compassionate
caring within the community.
Now in it's 11th year Healthcare Sunday is being celebrated around
the world. In 2001, the Sunday nearest St Luke's Day (18th October)
was October 21st, however this is flexible as it may be necessary
to choose another date to fit in with your Church's programme.
